I HAD TO SURVIVE - Dr ROBERTO CANESSA , PABLO VIERCI

This is two books in one : one about the crash, the other is the life after.
I really enjoyed the historical part of their tragedy and rescue in the Andes, but I found the second half of the book a little bit long.
I was always fascinated by this plane crash. This was a refreshing story to me as we have all almost heard it from Nando's point of view.
Both men were completely different people and they brought together by their experience. Nando was more stubborn and optimistic. Roberto was hesitant and spiritual.
It's an incredible balance the two brought for their 10 days trek trhough the mountains.
It's so interesting to hear about life in the Andes beyond the facts, beyond what happened.
A must a read for anybody interested in the 1972 Andes plane crash, the survivors, those who didn't survive, and the events leading up to.How Roberto used  his experience to become a world class pediatric surgeon. How one man who survived that disaster has chosen to devote his life to the saving of others who are helpless unborn babies with heart defects.
I have followed the 1972 incident since day 1.
I have watched movies, documentaries.
This book is an absolutely amazing story.
Wonderful read.
A great message on how we can turn challenges in our lives into opporutnities to reach out and help others.
A very inspirational book!
